Hydrazine solution
for oxygen scavenging in boilers

Description :

Oxygen scavenger-H is a catalysed liquid hydrazine oxygen scavenger for boiler and steam line corrosion protection. As an additional benefit it will assist to neutralise dissolved carbon dioxide, it provides the required conditions for the establishment of a passivating layer (magnetite) in the boiler and condensate system.

Directions of Use :

Oxygen scavenger-H can be used in all boiler system, from low to high pressures and in conjunction with mechanical deaeration systems.

The treatment combines with dissolved oxygen to form water and inert nitrogen gas, thus effectively removing 02 from the water. No solid materials are produced, so there is no contribution to the increase in total dissolved solids - a critical factor in high pressure boilers. The removal of dissolved oxygen is vital for preventing oxygen pitting and corrosion in boilers.

Oxygen scavenger-H reacts with ferrous and non-ferrous oxides to prevent general corrosion, Ferric oxide (red rust, Fe is converted to magnetite (black iron oxide Fe which is a tough corrosion resistant oxide which seals the metal surface. The term for this is 'passivating' the surfaces, so that they are protected from further corrosion.

Product Dose :

The objective is to maintain a hydrazine residual between 0.05 and 0.2 ppm depending on operating pressure and boiler design. Actual consumption is determined under operating conditions.

Dosing Method :

For optimum protection, Oxygen scavenger-H should be fed continuously into the boiler feed line, after the feed pump re-circulating valve.

For steam turbine systems, Oxygen scavenger-H can be dosed into the cross over between the H.P and L.P turbines or the storage section of the deaerator for full protection.

Sampling & Testing :

A representative sample of boiler water should be drawn for analysis daily.

The sample should always be taken from the same point after blow down, cooled and tested immediately.

Follow the NOVA test kit instructions and log the results on the log sheets provided by NOVA. These log sheets should be sent to NOVA for review and comments. It is important that regular testing is carried out to ensure levels of treatment are correct.

When wet lay-up of the boiler is required then a minimum dosage of 1.25 liters/tons is required contact NOVA for further details.

3.First aid measures:

General recommendations: Product contaminated clothing should be removed immediately.
Inhalation: Escort patient to fresh air. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.
Contact with skin: Wash with water & soap.
Contact with eyes: Flush eye liberally with water. Obtain medical attention
Ingestion: Give a lot of water to drink. Obtain medical attention

4.Fire fighting measures:

Product is not flammable. In case of fire, all extinguishing media can be used. In case of fire, that might cause of the release of chemical product fire fighters should use protective clothing. Contaminated extinguishing water must be disposed off in accordance with local regulations.

5.Accidental release measure:

In case of leaks or spill avoid contact. Use personal protection Refer section 7.Prevent spillage from spreading by using sand, earth or other suitable material. Collect the spilled material in a closed container and remove to safe place for disposal by burning, large spills where material has come into the environment or sewer inform the local authority.

6.Handling and Storage:

Handling: Keep container closed and handle with care.
Technical measures: Maintain adequate ventilation, at a dry, cool place, keep away from acids.
Packing material: Polyethylene containers.

7.Exposure control / Personal protection:

Respiratory: Not normally required, invent of inhalation risk, wear respirator mask.
Eye: Chemical monogoggles recommended.
Skin: Standard issue work cloth, chemical resistant safety shoes or boots.
